Safety Specialist Certification (Complete, Units 1-4)

The Long Term Care Safety Specialist Certification - LTC-SSC™ - 12 contact hours 

The Long Term Care Safety Specialist Certification Program is designed to equip a member of the nursing staff to serve as a resource to develop and sustain a culture of safety. The objectives of the program are to prepare a Long Term Care Safety Specialist within the nursing home to:

• identify the scope and profile of incidents and accidents
• describe safe patient handling principles
• describe principles of ergonomics
• identify technologies to reduce risks
• identify unique clinical and environmental risks in the LTC setting
• outline steps to implementing a Culture of Safety program
• utilize teaching strategies to enhance staff competencies
• identify systems and tools that can enhance a nursing home's safe practices

There are 4 units to this program:

• Overview Safety Risks and Challenges in LTC
• Foundation for Safe Practices
• Unique Risks in Long Term Care Settings
• Equipping Staff for Safe Practices - Creating a Program that Works

These units are offered in live workshop and webinar format. After completing all of the units the participant will be qualified to take the Long Term Care Safety Specialist Certification examination and receive nursing continuing education contact hours.

 Certification Specifics
The program consists of four units. To qualify for certification, you must:
